Event Description

Ike Sturm is a bassist, composer and bandleader in New York City. He is the Music Director for the Jazz Ministry at Saint Peter’s Church in Manhattan. He has performed with Alarm Will Sound, the International Contemporary Ensemble, Gene Bertoncini, Ingrid Jensen, Donny McCaslin, Bobby McFerrin, Ben Monder, Maria Schneider and Kenny Wheeler. His large-scale Jazz Mass album received a 4 1/2 star rating from DOWNBEAT magazine and was named among the “Best CDs of the Year.” His recent Shelter of Trees recording was described by renowned critic Bill Milkowski as “...undeniably beautiful.” Evergreen has toured across the U.S., Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Ike’s acoustic duo with guitarist Jesse Lewis, ENDLESS FIELD, released their eponymous album in June of 2017 on Biophilia Records. The band released "Alive in the Wilderness" in 2020, recorded with National Geographic videographers and a mobile solar-powered recording studio. Ike's music has been featured on Observer.com and live on NPR. Michael Mayo attended the acclaimed Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance, only the third vocalist to be accepted into the 20-year-old program, where he learned from Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and Luciana Souza. Mayo, now living in New York City, is a veteran international performer whose highlights include singing at the White House, the Kennedy Center and Renée Fleming’s American Voices Festival, as well as the Panama Jazz Festival. Most recently he has recorded and performed with Herbie Hancock, Kneebody, Gretchen Parlato, Christian Sands, Josh Groban, Ben Wendel, Becca Stevens, and Theo Bleckmann among many others.
