    The New School's Charli Persip Improv Ensemble performs live at WBGO for Jazz Appreciation Month and are interviewed by Michael Bourne. Click to hear this concert, and check back to hear more groups featured in our student jazz marathon for International Jazz Day on April 30.

    The ensemble, directed by drummer Charli Persip, is Andrew Freedman on piano, Myles Sloniker, bass, Michael Robinson, guitar, Matt Chalk, alto sax, Max Zooi, tenor, bass clarinet, soprano Cody Rowlands, trumpet, and Matthew Bumgardner, trombone. Martin Mueller, executive director of the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, also speaks. A full set list is below.

    The SUNY Purchase Bud Powell Repertory Ensemble performs live at WBGO for Jazz Appreciation Month. Click to hear this concert, and check back to hear more groups featured in our student jazz marathon for International Jazz Day on April 30.

    The ensemble, directed by Pete Malinverni, is Greg Jung and Mike Troy on alto saxes, Marie-Fatima Rudolf, piano, Zach Slaughter, bass, and Michael Camacho, drums. The group performed compositions by pianist Bud Powell, a full set list is below.

  • Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet Live At WBGO: Listen Now

    The Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet performs live at WBGO to celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month. The group appears April 10 and 12 at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola as part of JALC's seven-night Dave Brubeck festival, which celebrates the life and music of the pianist, who died in 2012.

    The ensemble features students at the College of the Pacific, home of the Brubeck Institute, with Max Boiko on trumpet, Joel Ross, vibes and piano, Sean Britt, guitar, Sarah Kuo, bass and Jalon D'Mere Archie, drums.
