  • Live From The Village Vanguard: Miguel Zenon Quartet

    WBGO presented the Miguel Zenon Quartet live from the Village Vanguard on Wednesday, May 15 at 8:30 p.m. Zenon, an alto saxophonist, was joined by bandmates Luis Perdomo on piano, Hans Glawischnig on bass, and Henry Cole on drums to perform material he plans to record with the HR Bigband in Frankfurt, Germany later this summer.

    WBGO presented drummer Jeff Ballard's "Fairgrounds" project live from the Village Vanguard on Wednesday, April 10 at 8:30 p.m. You can watch video, and review the live chat from this event, on this page.

    Like WBGO's other live broadcasts, these shows live on in our video archive and at NPRmusic.org.

    Ballard was joined by Eddie Henderson on trumpet, Kevin Hays on piano, Jeff Parker on guitar and Larry Grenadier on bass. The group's performance and broadcast were originally scheduled for last October, but were canceled because of Hurricane Sandy.

    WBGO presented Tom Harrell's "Colors of a Dream" live from the Village Vanguard on Wednesday, March 27 at 9 p.m. The composer and flugelhornist was joined by Jaleel Shaw on alto saxophone, Wayne Escoffery on tenor, Esperanza Spalding on bass and vocals, Ugonna Okegwo on bass and Johnathan Blake on drums.
