Eugene Sonn
Freelance Reporter
Eugene Sonn first joined WBGO in September 1998. Gene's job began as the result of a unique partnership between WBGO and WHYY FM in Philadelphia. For nine years, he covered the Statehouse and Central New Jersey for both stations.
Gene came to New Jersey from Oswego, New York (near Syracuse) where he worked for three years for public radio station WRVO-FM. He also has worked temporary jobs at National Public Radio and WBUR-FM in Boston.
Gene has won many awards from PRNDI, The New Jersey Associated Press Broadcasters Association and the New York Association of Black Journalists. A graduate of Swarthmore College, Gene grew up in Carlisle Massachusetts. He's an avid hiker, cyclist and home brewer.
