A Singer Returns Home: Lauren Kinhan on The Checkout Live at Berklee

Lauren Kinhan

New York Voices veteran Lauren Kinhan returned to her alma mater, the Berklee College of Music, for a special performance captured November 8, 2017.

It's a return home for Kinhan in many respects. After working with such wide-ranging talent as Donny McCaslin, Chaka Khan, and Ornette Coleman — and also presenting herself as an original songwriter — she has a new album that pays homage to a formative influence, the incomparable song stylist Nancy Wilson.

For this Checkout Live at Berklee show, Kinhan performed songs from that album, A Sleepin’ Bee, which she recorded in a workshop setting over 48 hours last year at the Berklee College of Music. It features some of Wilson’s finest songbook material, including the mesmerizing recording she made with alto sax legend Cannonball Adderley.
