Murphy Addresses State Response to Snow Storm

Governor Phil Murphy says there were about 1,800 plows and salt spreaders ready to clear the roads, but the snowstorm hit much harder than anyone predicted.

“Unfortunately, the worst of the storm coincided with the early dismissals from schools and workplaces. Meaning that when we needed our road crews and all of that equipment out there the most, they were competing with folks, understandably by the way, trying to get back home at the same time as well,” Murphy said.

New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti says a team is reviewing the response to make future adjustments.

“Post-mortem we need to look at some of the risks that come with those forecasts and work closely with our partners at National Weather Service to maybe make some different decisions," Scaccetti said.  "And look at some key points again where we need to focus our attention on equipment.”

State Police report one fatality and around 1,000 motor vehicle accidents during the storm.
