Guitarist and Composer John Abercrombie Remembered Fondly, In Two Recent Conversations

John Abercrombie

John Abercrombie, a trailblazing and deeply lyrical guitarist, died on Tuesday at 72.

Here are two wonderful recent conversations with John at WBGO. Five years ago he sat down with Michael Bourne to talk about his ECM album Within a Song, featuring saxophonist Joe Lovano, bassist Drew Gress and drummer Joey Baron.

Abercrombie also appeared on The Checkout in 2009, and spoke with Josh Jackson about what constitues a "European sound" in jazz, among other things. At that time, his new album was Wait Til You See Her, with Mark Feldman on violin, Thomas Morgan on bass and Baron again on drums.
