International Women in Jazz honored Lil Phillips and WBGO’s Sheila Anderson (center) at the annual WIJ Festival at Saint
Peter’s church on Saturday, April 13. Bertha Hope (right) moderated a panel at which Lil, who is director of the Mother Zion Jazz Society at the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Harlem and Sheila talked about their careers. Did you know that, at 16 , Sheila, who is the author of several books, was elected New YOrk State Youth President of the NAACP and held that position for four years?
