The evening of September 23 was rainy and nasty in New York City. But inside the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, the atmosphere was warm and loving, as the jazz community came together to pay tribute to the great Frank Foster, who passed away in July. The ceremony opened with Frank’s daughter, Andrea Jardis Innis, reading from her IPad a tribute to her dad. Focusing on Frank Foster as a dad, she emphasized his good nature and sense of humor, and his tolerance for whatever pranks his kids provided. “My dad didn’t even get mad when my brother and I, home alone while dad played at The Blue Note, called the police to report child neglect,” she revealed. “He thought we were a load of laughs!”
