Rhythm Revue Comes Home
Rhythm Revue Saturdays 10:00AM-2:00PM
Felix Hernandez's Rhythm Revue has returned to WBGO's airwaves Saturday mornings from 10:00AM-2:00PM and the popular Fillet of Soul hosted by Walter Wade has moved to Sunday nights 7:00PM-10:00PM. With the format change of Jammin' 105 to Hip hop great R&B music expands its place - on non-commercial Jazz 88.
Rhythm Revue started at WBGO in 1986. Hernandez left WBGO for Jammin' 105 WTJM in 1999 and gained new followers in the commercial radio world.
"They made me an offer I couldn't refuse," says Hernandez, "but some of my followers have never let me forget how good the show was on WBGO." With Jammin' 105's format
change, the timing was right to return to where Rhythm Revue started.
"Many listeners prefer a non-commercial presentation
of this music form," said WBGO General Manager Cephas Bowles,
"because they hear more music per hour than anywhere else on
the dial. With our consistent and longstanding emphasis on high-quality
music and information programming, WBGO is the ideal place for this
very important and popular program."
Now in its 16th year, Rhythm Revue's blend of classic
soul and R&B music received the 2000 A.I.R. (Achievement
in Radio) Award for the Best Weekend Program in New York.
Tied to Felix's radio show is a series of dance parties at New York's
Roseland Ballroom which consistently draw over 3,000 dancers on
a Saturday night each month. The dances are in their eleventh year.
WBGO is thrilled to have the best in the business
playing R&B on its airwaves - Bob Porter, Walter Wade and Felix
Hernandez. The richness of this great music lives on Jazz88.
