Pianist Geri Allen Performs at Starry Nights Jazz Series

Pianist Geri Allen at the American Museum of Natural HistoryThe first Friday of each month true jazz lovers can be found tapping their toes at the American Museum of Natural History's Rose Center for Earth and Space . Its Starry Nights jazz concert series, held in the Rose Center's Hall of the Universe, is definitely the place to see and be seen. On August 6 at 5:30 pm, WBGO will broadcast accomplished pianist Geri Allen live from Starry Nights.

Geri Allen, known for her improvisational skills on the piano, has long been considered an influential player on the jazz scene. She has written commissioned works for Jazz at Lincoln Center and the American Music Theater Festival. In 1994, she won the Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Jazz Album of the Year. Allen has played with Oliver Lake, Betty Carter, Charlie Haden, Ron Carter, Ornette Coleman and Wallace Roney, her husband.

Starry Nights premiered in 2000, the year the museum's Rose Center opened to great acclaim for its superb architectural design. Entrance to Starry Nights is free with suggested Museum admission.
