SportsJam with Doug Doyle

WBGO's newest podcast and on-demand feature SportsJam with Doug Doyle is now available. SportsJam takes a unique peak into the sports scene as WBGO's News and Sports Director Doug Doyle chats with players, coaches, owners, broadcasters, fans and musicians. SportsJam guests like basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, trumpeter Jon Faddis and Devils goalie Kevin Weekes all agree there's a strong connection between jazz and sports.

Newark has become a hotbed for sports with Prudential Center as the new home for Devils hockey, New Jersey Ironmen soccer and Seton Hall basketball. SportsJam has already featured all three teams. "The show keeps evolving and it's exciting," says Doyle. "Talking jazz and sports with the likes of Kareem, Jon Faddis, Don Braden, Kevin Weekes and sports broadcaster Dave Popkin has been a big thrill for me. Another one of my favorite moments so far is having NewJersey Ironmen midfielders Stefan Stokic and Goran Vasic sing a Serbian song following a home victory."

A special inaugural extended podcast of SportsJam is a personal chat with Michael Gilfillan, co-owner of the New Jersey Devils and the New Jersey Ironmen. The first of the half-hour podcasts features New Jersey Ironmen defenders Gordon Kljestan (Seton Hall grad) and Matthew Mayer of Cape May Court House, New Jersey.

Doyle, who has been covering local sports for nearly 25 years, hopes his podcast draws people from all walks of life to WBGO. Doyle, a Pennsylvania State University grad has won more than 90 state and national news and sports awards. He is the news anchor and sidekick for Jazz 88's morning air personality Gary Walker.
