Young Father Gunned Down In Newark

A young father was gunned down during a robbery in a Newark bodega.
Police say 18-year-old Jamil Bader Jr. was working at his family’s deli on Clinton Avenue when two men attempted to rob the store. Bader was allegedly shot in the head and killed.
Mayor Cory Booker expressed his condolences to Bader’s family. He says the city’s already working to make bodegas and other small shops safer with more security cameras.
“You can let these evil people who continue to do this kind of thing win and you can close up shop or curse the darkness or you can continue to work against this.”
Booker also tried to put things into perspective.
This is not a Newark problem this is happening from Chicago to New York to Oakland to Los Angeles. We have a violence problem in the United States of America.”
But for Jamil Bader’s family and friends, that point of view may be harder to see. He leaves behind a 14-month-old daughter.
