Some critics claim Governor Chris Christie acts like a bully, but a new poll shows the majority of New Jersey voters are not concerned about his behavior.

Christie sometimes confronts and chastises people who disagree with him.

While that gets a lot of media attention, Monmouth University Polling Institute director Patrick Murray says the majority of New Jersey residents are not bothered by it.

“We found that 51 percent say that it doesn’t matter how he talks. It wouldn’t have changed how much he’s accomplished so far, but there are a good number of voters, in fact 28 percent, who say that if the governor had acted a little differently he might have been able to get more done.”

50 percent of voters surveyed say Christie deserves another term as governor, while 45 percent say it might be time for someone new.

Murray says the potential Democratic challenger with the most name recognition among voters is Newark Mayor Cory Booker.

“Right now 6 in 10 New Jerseyans say they’re familiar with the mayor, and Booker gets a very strong positive rating. 49 percent have a favorable view of him. Only 13 percent are unfavorable. That¹s a net rating of plus 36 and that’s really strong rating to start off with as a challenger here in New Jersey.”

Murray says 34 percent of voters have a favorable view of former governor and current state senator Dick Codey who is also a potential gubernatorial candidate next year.

“He hasn’t been in the news lately, and his numbers have dropped simply because people are forgetting about Dick Codey, but if he gets back into this race I would expect to see those numbers climb again as people are reminded of his years as governor.”
