Two men are dead following a shooting outside the Empire State Building early this morning. At least nine others were wounded.
Authorities say Jeffrey Johnson shot his former boss Steven Ercolino in the head three times. Johnson was subsequently killed in a shootout with the police.
Mayor Bloomberg says the shooting caused early morning chaos on the streets of Manhattan, but it could have been a lot worse.
“This is a terrible tragedy and there’s no doubt that the situation would have been even more tragic but for some extraordinary acts of heroism.”
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says a construction worker is among several citizens who helped police control the situation. All those who were wounded are expected to recover.
