The Holland Tunnel To Install LED Lighting
By Alexandra Hill, WBGO News
January 24, 2013
Holland Tunnel is about to get a little bit greener.
Motorists driving through the tunnel will soon notice brighter, cooler, more environmentally friendly lighting. The new LED lights will be installed over the next several months replacing its over 7,000 current fluorescent bulbs. Anthony Carvagno, general manager of the Holland Tunnel, says the new lights will save energy and money.
“Several years ago we were asked to look at our carbon footprint in the port authority and kind of reduce utility usage and cost, and the LED project was born out of that.”
The job is expected to be complete by the fall and motorists need not worry, the project will not affect travel through the tunnel.
