State and City Officials Gather to Celebrate Newark Teachers Contract

City and state officials came together to celebrate the ratification of the landmark Newark teacher’s contract.
Teachers in Newark will be among the first in the nation to be paid based on classroom performance. Newark Public Schools Superintendant Cami Anderson says the contract is only as good as the implementation. She says they are committed to getting it right.
“We’re going to sit down with the union and make sure we have a good process in place, but certainly we will do some work on that this year even, to make sure that teachers are involved in the process in all the ways that are spelled out in the contract, and that’ll be exciting and fun work to do, obviously we’ll have to phase it in, it won’t happen overnight.”
Money for the merit raises is coming from the 100 million matching grant face book founder Mark Zuckerberg gave to the Newark Schools.
