Prom dresses seized from a store in Wayne under investigation will go on sale tomorrow at a court-ordered auction.

Prom season’s long over, but the public will have a chance to bid on more than a thousand dresses, accessories and other assets from Red Carpet Pageant and Prom.

Owners of the Wayne dress shop were charged with consumer fraud earlier this year after closing the store without delivering on orders or repaying deposits.

Andrea Sullivan is an attorney who’s been chosen by the court to oversee the auction. She says the state’s made every effort to return dresses to those who bought them.

“Now we’re at the point where these are dresses that had not been ordered or paid for by anyone and they’ll be available to whoever bids.”

She says the auction will help repay customers and other creditors.

Eric Kanefsky, the head of the Department of Consumer Affairs says while they can’t change what happened, “we want everyone to know we’re taking every measure we can under the law to try to get them to a place where at least they’re not out money.”
