Even though he hasn’t declared whether he’ll seek another term, a new poll shows Governor Christie is the favorite in next year’s race for Governor of New Jersey.

The Quinnipiac University poll shows Christie leading all of the potential Democratic challengers.

Poll director Maurice Carroll says Christie is favored by 4 points over Newark Mayor Cory Booker, has a 6 point lead over Senator Dick Codey, a 12 point advantage over Senator Barbara Buono, and is ahead of Assemblyman Lou Greenwald by 21 points.

“He owns New Jersey from the standpoint of attention. This guy has just taken it over with his Jersey guy performance.”

If Christie does run for reelection, Carroll expects the national Democratic Party will spend a lot of time and money trying to beat him to thwart his possible run for President in 2016.

Carroll says the poll also shows the majority of New Jersey voters don’t want the state to rush to approve a tax cut.

“39 percent agree with Christie let’s vote now. 52 percent agree with the legislative Democrats let’s wait and see if the money comes in. So that’s still an issue.”
