The New York bound luxury liner caught fire as it sailed up the Jersey coast returning from the port of Havana Cuba. One hundred thirty seven of its passengers and crew died. The series creator, Emil Salvini says the tragedy touched the lives of many along the jersey shore.
“There was quite a bit of heroism there was quite a bit of cowardice but there is, there was a lot of what I call New Jersey pride that took place, and I wanted to stress that.”
Salvini says the tragedy is an important part of the rich maritime history of the Jersey shore that needs to be told.
“The Titanic was a larger ship naturally, and it was a bigger story but this ship involved murder, it involved arson, there were just so many amazing things that took place.”
Tales of The Jersey Shore premieres Thurday June 21, 2012 at 9pm on NJTV.
