Susan G. Komen For The Cure has reversed its decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screenings which created a storm of controversy.

The charity is apologizing for the decision that led many Americans to question its commitment to curing breast cancer.

Senator Frank Lautenberg says he spoke with Komen CEO Nancy Brinker who told him the charity thought it could better provide women with breast cancer screening services without Planned Parenthood.

“They wanted to continue the funding of programs, of grants, so I guess maybe they didn’t think they could do it better.”

Planned Parenthood of New Jersey’s Michele Jaker says the controversy has been a rallying cry for the organization which often comes under political fire.

“This was really important that we continue to speak up and speak out about these challenges and these cuts in funding and exactly who we see and who we serve.”

She’s confident the two organizations will recover from the dispute and continue their partnership for women’s health.
