NJ Environmentalists Peddle and Paddle to Ban Offshore Drilling

Some New Jersey environmentalists are peddling and paddling their way from Cape May to Montauk to raise awareness about offshore drilling. However, they want to get some lawmakers on board before beginning their journey.
Clean Ocean Zone is trying to gather 30 signatures in 30 days from federal, state and local officials to ban offshore drilling and reduce pollution before their “Tour for the Shore” kicks into gear. Joanna Simon says they’re trying to encourage lawmakers like Governor Chris Christie to do more when it comes to protecting the ocean and keeping it pure.
“We’re hoping by traveling up the state and going into Montauk will have enough of a following to influence Christie and state officials.”
From August 10th through the 24th, environmental activist Margo Pellegrino will paddle up the coast in her outrigger canoe. The organization’s attorney Sean Dixon will ride his bike through different communities in New Jersey and Long Island while holding 30 rallies along the shore.
