The goal of the program is to prepare Newark students for the next phase in their musical journey. Sixteen year old Arts High School student and guitarist Rashaan Pickett says the experience has been a blessing.
“When I got into music, that really like changed my life and made me look at things different, it made me think different, it made me positive.”
The concert will feature three generations of Jazz artists including Antonio Hart and Jimmy Heath. Hart says working with the Newark students has been a rewarding experience.
“Young musicians that are really going to show their appreciation for life and the ability to play music and to be on the stage with a master like Jimmy Heath.”
Hart reminds the young musicians that it’s not what you are playing; it is the intent, the spirit, and the legacy behind it.
