The latest shooting in Newark yesterday has left a high school student dead.

18 year old Paul Hudson Jr., a Weequahic High School student, was fatally shot just minutes after leaving the grounds of the high school around 2 Wednesday afternoon. Police Director Samuel DeMaio says the investigation is ongoing, and they have yet to identify a suspect.

“We’re still in the very early stages of the investigation we’re still working on locking in a definite motive for the incident but what we do know at this time is that the victim of the unfortunate incident was definitely the intended target.”

30 minutes after the shooting, three men ran into another school complex a few miles away while being chased, sparking a 65 minute lockdown of the school.  DeMaio says the incidents are unrelated.
