Newark’s Open Doors Festival taking place the week is a chance to check out the city’s vibrant art scene.

Since the festival started twelve years ago, there has been an influx of all kinds of artists to the city. Lynwood Oglesby, Executive Director of the Newark Arts Council, says that while visual arts are the focus of the festival, visitors will have the opportunity to take in all of Newark’s diverse art scene.

“This year, there is the addition of poetry. The Dodge Poetry Festival is also featuring poets in many of the galleries. There are also performing arts, spoken word that is taking place, and screenings of film being done as well. So there is a real opportunity to experience all the arts.”

The festival features events in locations all over the city and runs until October 20th.
