The thirteenth season of Jazz Vespers at Newark’s Bethany Baptist Church is in full swing kicking off their first event of 2013 with the Cecil Brooks III band and special guest Bill Cosby.
The sounds of jazz filled the main hall of the Church. The Cecil Brooks Band played to a capacity crowd that included comedian Bill Cosby. Cosby even gave an impromptu standup comedy performance. A long time jazz enthusiast, Cosby says it is events like this that bring jazz back to the church and the community.
“Since the music is based with the blues, and the songs are written by the people who played in the church, and so I think the music along with something like tonight gives us a wonderful feeling.”
You can catch Jazz Vespers at Bethany every first Saturday of the month through June.
