Dorthaan’s Place kicked off its Sunday jazz brunch series at NJPAC this weekend to a sold out crowd.
The inaugural brunch featured the sounds of pianist Geri Allen and her quartet. The event was a part of the last day of the James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival. Dorthaan Kirk Curator and host of Dorthaan’s Place says though it was a success she is looking ahead to the future dates.
“I think the story will be told for the December 16th one because after that it will kind of take on another kind of life, I’m hoping it’s really successful because it’s the beginning, it could be the beginning of jazz in Newark.”
The upcoming dates in the series will feature Houston Person, Don Braden, and Cyrus Chestnut.
