Forgotten Law Bans Bathing Suits On NJ Boardwalk
By Katie Colaneri, WBGO News

The law went on the books more than 40 years ago… But Deputy Mayor John Loffredo says the city has no intention of enforcing it.
“People want to walk on the boardwalk in their bathing suit? The city of Asbury Park isn’t going to stop them.”
Loffredo says with time and fashion trends, the decades-old law fallen into obscurity. That is, until an article in a popular men’s magazine listed Asbury Park as one of the worst-dressed American cities.
Loffredo says this moved a former councilwoman to check out the city laws.
“She was complaining that people are not dressing properly especially on the oceanfront.”
Loffredo believes it’s up to boardwalk businesses to enforce their own dress codes. In other words… no shirt, no shoes? No problem.
