The vote must go on. Despite the current state of emergency county officials are encouraging residents to make an effort to cast their votes.
For the many Essex county residents still recovering from Sandy, Election Day may be an afterthought, but it is only 4 days away. Essex County Clerk Chris Durken says though there are many obstacles, they are working to ensure voting happens.
“We have 306 polling locations in Essex County, the majority of them do have power and every hour more and more locations are coming on line, so we are going to be working around the clock, through the weekend to make sure everybody has the ability to vote.”
Durken also says residents who want to vote early can do so with a vote by mail ballot available at the Essex County Clerk’s office which will be open this weekend
