GOP Senate Candidate Steve Lonegan picked up an endorsement on Tuesday from New Jersey’s top Republican.

Governor Chris Christie strongly endorsed Lonegan for Senate before a crowd of supporters at the Hunterdon County Republican Headquarters in Flemington. He vowed to help Lonegan on the campaign trail and said this is not the only time that he will be with Lonegan before the Senate election in October.

“We’re going to help him raise money, Senator Chiesa’s going to help him, Lieutenant Governor Guadagno’s going to help him, and the apparatus of the Republican party is going to be behind Steve Lonegan between now and October 16th to bring us to victory. Let there be no doubt in anybody’s mind about that, or about my energy for this endorsement.”

Lonegan and Christie have been occasional rivals, but the Governor says they agree on many of the issues and that he is dedicated to helping Lonegan win the Senate seat over his Democratic rival, Cory Booker.
