Christie Announces College Renovation Project

Governor Christie was in Newark on Wednesday to announce major renovation projects at one of the city’s colleges.
Essex County Community College will be getting $19 million in funding for capital improvements. Renovations include major structural and technology updates to the library that college officials say will offer students a 21st century education.
Governor Christie says it’s been twenty-five years since the state has invested capital in higher education.
“And that’s much, much too long. And what it’s done is take institutions that were on the cutting edge twenty five years ago and push them backwards. We now have the resources to be able to move them back forward to where they need to be.”
The funding for the renovations comes from a $750 million bond act approved by voters in 2012 to upgrade the state’s colleges and universities.
