Christie Against Putting Armed Guards In Schools
By Katie Colaneri, WBGO News
Newark. December 21, 2012
The NRA’s press conference comes at a time when lawmakers are debating ways to make schools safer and prevent more mass shootings. Governor Chris Christie says he wants a “holistic” approach.
While the chief gun lobbyist for the NRA is calling for “good guys with guns,” Governor Christie says putting armed guards in schools doesn’t make sense – morally or logistically.
“You don’t want to make this an armed camp for kids. I don’t think that’s a positive example for children.”
Christie says there’s no one solution to lowering violence.
“We have to deal and talk about issues of gun control. We have to talk about issues regarding mental health treatment and removing the stigma that’s attached to mental health treatment.”
The governor didn’t offer any specific ideas beyond conversation.
