The timeline for raising the Bayonne Bridge has been moved up.  The original lower roadway is expected to be removed six months earlier than initially projected

The project to raise the roadway  is now expected to begin next summer and should be completed in two years. It will coincide with the opening of the newly widened Panama Canal which Port Authority Chairman David Sampson says it is creating fierce competition among east coast por

“This project is a critical infrastructure project for both the port authority and the region and completing the project ahead of schedule will now ensure that the port authority of NY/NJ will remain the regions primary economic engine.”

Sampson says the project will create sixty three hundred jobs and generate one and half billion dollars in economic activity. He says traffic on the bridge will remain free flowing during the construction.

The entire project is expected to be finished 2017.
