Assembly Passes Online Voter Registration Bill
By Phil Gregory, WBGO News
Trenton. October 19, 2012
Residents now have to fill out paper voter registration forms they can get from county clerks or motor vehicle offices.
A measure passed by the New Jersey Assembly would establish a secure Internet site so you could register online.
Assemblywoman Gabriela Mosquera says you will have to supply more than your name, address, birth date, and social security number.
“They would have to put their driver’s license information. That will help the DMV match their driver’s license with their signature that’s on file in the DMV. It’s actually making sure that the DMV knows that the person that is registering online is who they say that they are.”
If the legislation eventually becomes law, it would affect registration for elections in future years. The deadline to register to vote this year has already passed.
