They lined up around the block at the Prudential Center where temperatures sizzled into the 80s as early as 5 a.m. And risking heat stroke wasn’t the only sacrifice for some.

15 year-old Annalise Martin’s mother drove them through the night from their home of Johnstown, Pennsylvania just to get in line to register for Saturday’s auditions.

“Well, it should have been five hours, but I forgot my birth certificate, so we had to drive three hours back so… 13 hours.”

Martin and her mother say it’s worth it to get her name out there. But Idol “auditionees” do take the risk of becoming infamous.

19-year-old Megan Hall from Haddon Heights, NJ says the show’s producers have lots of reasons to put people on the show.

“…you know, they think you’re funny, they think you’re a terrible singer, they think you’re a great singer.”

And with some 15,000 people expected in Newark over the next three days, chances are pretty good that at least one of them will get their name out there…for one reason or another.
