Undocumented immigrants under the age of 31 now have an option for staying in the country legally, at least temporarily. They can now apply to the U.S. Government for a work permit. W-B-G-O’s Alexandra Hill spoke to one student who stands to benefit.

Marisol Conde-Hernandez , is founder of the New Jersey Dream Coalition. Hernandez, a Rutgers University graduate, says she has been here since she the age of one and considers herself more of Jersey girl than anything. She says she plans to apply for the permit.

“I didn’t cross the border the way my father did or even the way some of my peers did, I am very much American in every single way, but the dream act and deferred action aren’t about proving how American I am, cause that exactly how I identify, it’s about being given the opportunity to contribute back to this country the way I have received.”

Hernandez calls the program bitter sweet because it will not change her citizenship status.  She hopes comprehensive immigration reform in the future will do that.
