David Cruz

Noon Anchor & Feature Reporter

David Cruz

David Cruz has spent the last 15 years in news. He began as a general assignment reporter with North Hudson News, a nightly newscast in Northern New Jersey, then became editor in chief of the Hudson Reporter, a 90,000-circulation weekly newspaper covering Hudson County. He also wrote the "Latin Beat," the most widely-read column in Hudson County.

"I still miss the newspaper business, but being in radio, at WBGO, especially, is more than I could have asked for," said Cruz. "I think everything that I've done in the past 15 years has been perfect preparation for what I'm doing now."

Cruz has been around music and the arts for some time, having served as the Public Relations and Marketing Director for Newark Symphony Hall and as Executive Director of Liberty Center for the Performing Arts. He was even one of the key players in the re-opening of the Stone Pony, Asbury Park's venerable rock & roll club.

Cruz anchors the noon newscast during Rhonda Hamilton's Mid-day Jazz program and his news reports can be heard during morning and afternoon drive time. In 2007, he began hosting “Newark Today,” a monthly call-in show with Newark Mayor Cory Booker. The show airs on the second Thursday of the month at 8 p.m.

"I couldn’t ask for more. Doing the news with Rhonda Hamilton and hosting a call-in show with Mayor Booker," says Cruz. "Our relationship with our listeners is personal and I take that very seriously."

Cruz is a graduate of New Jersey City University, where he majored in Communications. He is single and lives in Jersey City, which he has proudly called home for his entire life.
