WBGO hosts the 2009 New Jersey Gubernatorial Debate

On October 22, all three major candidates in the New Jersey Governor's race met and debated on WBGO Jazz 88.3FM (Newark Public Radio, Inc.). The debate was produced and moderated by WBGO News Director, Doug Doyle, who has been covering New Jersey politics for the past 25 years. WBGO Evening News Anchor Andrew Meyer and WBGO/WHYY State House Reporter Phil Gregory asked questions of the candidates.

Non-commercial WBGO, a National Public Radio affiliate, has a history of bringing in-depth news coverage and political conversation to the airwaves. In 2005, WBGO hosted a gubernatorial debate with Jon Corzine and Doug Forrester. The WBGO News Department has earned more than 200 awards from the Associated Press, Public Radio News Directors Inc., New York Association of Black Journalists, Garden State Association of Black Journalists, and the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists, including multiple awards for election coverage. WBGO has also received national recognition for its call-in program Newark Today with Newark Mayor Cory Booker. The monthly show is hosted by Andrew Meyer.

The one hour debate with Jon Corzine, Chris Christie and Chris Daggett began at 8PM on October 22 in the WBGO Performance Studio in downtown Newark. The broadcast from WBGO Jazz 88.3FM was simulcast on WHYY (Philadelphia), WNYC (New York), NJN Radio (9 stations from Sussex to Cape May) and WBJB (Lincroft, NJ).
