US Senate Primary 2013

What may have otherwise been another sleepy summer in New Jersey was turned upside down by the unexpected death of the state’s senior U.S. Senator, Frank Lautenberg, and Governor Chris Christie’s subsequent decision to hold a special election to fill his seat. Four Democrats and two Republicans are competing in the August 13th primary for their parties’ nomination.

All four Democrats, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Congressman Rush Holt, Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver, and Congressman Frank Pallone, came together at the WBGO studios for one final debate before the primary. WBGO news director Doug Doyle served as the moderator of the hour-long debate carried on WBGO, WHYY and News 12 New Jersey with questions coming from WBGO assistant news director Andrew Meyer, WHYY audio news director Eugene Sonn, and News 12 New Jersey statehouse reporter Luke Margolis.
