Newark - (WBGO News 12/14/2009)
Jersey officially has a new head federal prosecutor. The guests attending the swearing in made up an A-List of legal minds from the state level all the way up to the US Supreme Court.
US Supreme Court Associate Justice and fellow New Jerseyan Samuel Alito, Jr. has administered the oath of office to Paul Fishman, the state’s newest top federal prosecutor. The 52-year-old father of two served as an assistant US Attorney for 11 years and a defense lawyer before taking over the post.
“In a handful of cases, prosecutors have started to push the ethical envelope. And when that happens, every case in the country and every prosecutor suffer the consequences. In this district, on my watch, we will not be the ones to fall into that trap.”
Roughly 500 people were on hand for the event, including New Jersey’s two US Senators, three Governors, US Attorney General Eric Holder and former Secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff.
Fishman succeeds Ralph Marra who replaced Governor-elect Chris Christie when he stepped down to run for the office.
