NJ SALVATION ARMY SAYS THE RECESSION MAY HURT ITS HOLIDAY KETTLE DRIVE WBGO News via RSS

The New Jersey Salvation Army is getting ready for its annual holiday fund drive.
You’ll soon be seeing the bell ringers at those red kettles. Nancy Wellbrock is development director for the Salvation Army New Jersey division. She says the economy is making it difficult to recruit volunteers for the fundraising effort.
“Many families these days are challenged in just getting to work and dealing with what their family issues are. We are looking for people to stand for a minimum of four hours at a time and sometimes that’s not so easy for people depending on what their other obligations are.”
Wellbrock says more people are seeking help from the Salvation Army, and she’s hopeful the annual kettle drive will generate enough money to meet the need. The statewide fundraising goal this year is 1.8 million dollars.
