Trenton - (WBGO News 10/29/2009)

As election day approaches, politics is not the only thing dividing New Jersey residents. There’s also plenty of disagreement in the Garden State on which team to cheer for in the World Series.

A Quinnipiac University poll finds the majority of New Jersey residents want the Yankees to win baseball’s fall classic. But poll director Maurice Carroll says the Southwest part of the Garden State has plenty of Phillies fanatics.

“It’s root root root for the neighbors. Most of New Jersey wants the team across the Hudson, the New York Yankees to win. The numbers are big 58 to 28. But the neighbors of Philadelphia across the Delaware river they like the Phillies 80 to 10.”

56 percent of the men surveyed say they want the Yankees to win the series. Women are even bigger Yankees fans. 60 percent of them are rooting for the New York team.
