Contribute to WBGO Now and NJPAC will make an additional $10 donation to the James Moody Jazz Scholarship Fund for Newark Youth. Honoring the TD James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival, October 15 - 21.

For every person who contributes to WBGO today at the $60 level or above, NJPAC will give an additional $10 to the James Moody Jazz Scholarship Fund for Newark Youth.

"The mission of the James Moody Jazz Scholarship for Newark Youth is to provide tuition to a young man or woman, who is gifted and has a dedication to pursuing a career in music, to go to the college of their choice. They may augment this scholarship with any other they may qualify for, to reach their goal of a degree in music. The student may not have any support for their dream at home or they may need a new instrument. We will try to help them however we can. It was my husband's dream to help children get the education in music that he never had but for which he longed. He was self taught and practiced 3 hours a day until he got sick. This is a marvelous way to carry on his legacy in the way that was most important to him and that was education in any form. Any contribution is happily received with gratefulness and appreciation."

Magic Tree House: A Night in New Orleans

A new jazz musical based on Mary Pope Osborne's A Good Night for Ghosts
Saturday, October 20, 2012 @ 1:00 pm

The James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival premieres a new jazz musical, Magic Tree House: A Night in New Orleans, based on A Good Night for Ghosts, book #42 in the phenomenally popular Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne.

Created by playwright-musician Will Osborne (husband of celebrated author Mary Pope Osborne) in collaboration with Murray Horwitz (co-creator of the Broadway hit, Ain't Misbehavin') and legendary New Orleans composer Allen Toussaint, the show will transport audiences back to 1915 New Orleans, where the streets are filled with music - and the night is filled with ghosts! On the eve of All Saints Day - the most haunted night of the year - beloved Magic Tree House characters Jack and Annie must find a young Louis Armstrong and put him on the path to becoming the king of jazz. Featuring a live band, a cast of skilled performers, and a powerful message about dreams, race, and possibilities, this musical introduces young audiences to the magic of music, the thrill of live theater - and the joy of jazz! Sponsored by the Women's Association of NJPAC.
