WBGO's wonderful group of travelers bid farewell to France by raising our glasses to the wines of Provence - all day long. A votre santé!

For over 2000 years, Provence has been producing wines. World famous for its rosé wines, the region's climate also makes it a cradle for fine wine growing in general.

Rosé is a wine that is made from red grapes. The difference between the red and rosé is the length of time the grape juice stays in contact with the skins.

On this hot summer day, je préfere un verre du vin rosé!

Our first stop, Chateau du Berne, has been a family owned winery since 1790 with 292 acres of vines. They also have also kept with the times, and have ultra-modern processing facilities.

After we tasted a few varieties of whites, reds and rosés, it was time to pair full glasses of wine with lunch!

It’s time to make our way to our second winery du jour - Chateau Sainte Roseline - an estate dating back to 1300 with a chapel dating back to 1329.

We make our way back to the hotel to take in a brief hang on the beach, before tonight’s concert at the Juan Les Pins Jazz Festival.

The concerts are held next door to the hotel, where most of the musicians are staying.

It was a nice surprise to see our friend, percussionist, Mino Cinelu on the beach, taking in some sun and salt before hitting the stage with bassist Marcus Miller!

This is the last night of the Festival, and what a way to end our wonderful week of music! We enjoyed  the Kenny Garrett Quartet and Marcus Miller's 21 piece band, featuring Ibrahim Malouf!

It's been a marvelous time with all of our WBGO tour group!

Merci a tous et pour tout!

    A bientôt...

WBGO is proud to welcome new contributors Ben and Leo Sidran. The father-and-son team were our special correspondents at the 2015 Newport Jazz Festival, July 31 - August 2.

Leo and Ben reported every day on the sights and sounds of the fest for WBGO-FM, WBGO HD2 and at WBGO.ORG/SIDRAN.

Ben Sidran is known to many NPR listeners as the longtime host of  “Jazz Alive” and “Sidran on Record.” He’s a free-spirited pianist and author who’s been dubbed “the first existentialist jazz rapper.”

Leo is a musician and producer whose credits include the Academy Award-winning song “Al Otro Lado Del Rio,” from the 2004 film The Motorcycle Diaries.

He’s also the host of The Third Story, a podcast series of unguarded conversations with musicians and other creative artists.

“It’s a perfect match,” says Ben. “WBGO is the flagship jazz station in the world, and Newport is the flagship festival. We’re so excited to be here, together.”

The Sidrans paid close attention to the festival’s embrace of new and emerging talent, such as twelve-year-old pianist Joey Alexander and the Brooklyn-based band Snarky Puppy.

"What I really love about the feeling this year is that there’s so much talk about the future,” says Leo.

Highlights of their Newport coverage include encounters and interviews with Jon Batiste, Jamie Cullum, Bob Dorough, James Carter, Jack DeJohnette and much, much more. We hope you enjoy it!

Follow all of their future adventures at WBGO.ORG/SIDRAN.

    Welcome, Leo and Ben!
