    Jimmy Heath

Jimmy Heath, who I interviewed last Thursday,  is a national treasure; a complete musician, composer,  arranger, and educator.

A walking encyclopedia of this music, not necessarily because Heath has read all the books… because he IS a book.  He was there, and he’s here, making great music, and inspiring younger musicians to carry the torch proudly.  Recently, I had the pleasure of chatting with Jimmy about his life, his loves and his continuing aspirations to contribute something meaningful to the art of jazz.  Some of it's in this chat, all of it is in his autobiography “I Walked With Giants” from Temple University Press.  Jimmy will do a book signing Saturday, February 5th at 4pm at Bethany Baptist Church, 275 W. Market Street in Newark. - Gary Walker
