WBGO JAM Live: Berklee Global Jazz Institute

Add new comment | Filed under: Jazz Appreciation Month, Live Music, Live Music BloggingThe “Red Ensemble” of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI), directed by Marco Pignataro, performed live in the WBGO studios today in the fifth in our series of student performance in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM). The ensemble is Sofia Rubino from Estonia on vocals, Clay Lyons from Madison, Wisconsin on alto saxophone, Tom Wilson on soprano saxophone, Edmar Colon from Puerto Rico on tenor saxophone, Sharik Hasan from Bangalore, India on piano, Joseph Manzoli from Toronto, Canada on guitar, Zach Brown from Baltimore, Maryland on bass, and Roberto Giaquinto from Napoli, Italy on drums. The group performed their own compositions, and were interviewed between songs by host Michael Bourne.
The Berklee Global Jazz Institute's artistic director is pianist and composer Danilo Pérez, and faculty include Terri Lyne Carrington, George Garzone, John Patitucci, and Joe Lovano. These BGJI students will perform two sets with Lovano this evening at New York's Blue Note, at 8:00 and 10:30 p.m.
