Toast in New York!

The New York segment of NPR and WBGO's Toast of the Nation comes to you from the Jazz Standard in Midtown Manhattan. The Jazz Standard is in the basement of a smokin' barbecue joint called Blue Smoke.
Earlier today we soundchecked the Mingus Big Band. And big it is, with a full complement of saxes and brass including tuba! Trombonist Kumba Frank Lacy is also doing some vocal work:
Those are two important elements in making a live broadcast such as this happen. Keep reading for the others.
You need a great host, to help you navigate the musical waters of the broadcast. We have that in Michael Bourne, he's been hosting Toast of the Nation for some 20+ years.
And a great crew. We've got that in Aurasonic and the rest of the team from WBGO. It's cold out there tonight, with wind chills in the single digits, but the Breadmobile keeps mixer Duke Markos and the rest of us out of the elements and able to give you a great mix!
