Steven Bernstein's MTO plays Sly Stone at 92Y for WBGO
October 18, 2011. Posted by Tim Wilkins.
We had a great time at the 92Y Tribeca last Friday night with Steven Bernstein's Millennial Territory Orchestra and special guests Bernie Worrell, Sandra St. Victor and Eric Mingus. So we thought we'd share it with you again!
It's hard to describe the Millennial Territory Orchestra's postmodern brew of old-time, funk and jump swing, which Bernstein applies with equal zest to Prince and the Mound City Blowers. And of course, they brought a banjo. Don't take my word for it, you're better off hearing it for yourself.
At the 92Y, the MTO turned its manic attention to the work of Sly Stone, as they have done on their CD release, MTO plays SLY, just out on Potato Family Records.
Like all of our 92Y shows, this performance is archived on our site for your listening pleasure. Take a look at The Checkout's show page for more details on this show and other past performances!
