This year's honorees are vocalist Sheila Jordan, saxophonist Von Freeman, composer/arranger Jimmy Owens, drummer Jack DeJohnette and bassist Charlie Haden.
Since 1982, the NEA has recognized 124 Jazz Masters (or group awards), all of whom were living at the time of their selection. In addition to a one-time grant of $25,000, recipients are also invited to participate in NEA-sponsored live performances and education programs across the country.
Congratulations, 2012 Jazz Masters!
