Soprano Jessye Norman selects some of her favorite jazz recordings and talks with WBGO's Rhonda Hamilton about her vocal inspirations, such as Mabel Mercer and Billie Holiday, and her efforts to offer quality arts education to disadvantaged youth through the the Jessye Norman School of The Arts in Augusta, Georgia.
Norman will host a special performance of Lady Day at the Little Shubert Theatre in New York City on Tuesday, September 24, at 7:00 p.m. The event, which stars JazzSet host Dee Dee Bridgewater as Billie Holiday, benefits WBGO and The Actors Fund.
